International Volunteer Year (IVY) 2026 Volunteer Spotlight - Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre

Place of Care

As part of our “26 of 26” campaign, we are proud to shine a light on the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre.

The Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre is a warm and welcoming place for people affected by cancer.  Since 2004, the centre has helped thousands of people and their families during very difficult times.

The centre is open to anyone dealing with cancer, whether they are patients, family members, or carers.

It offers a safe space where people can talk, feel supported, and not feel alone.

Comprehensive Support

The centre looks after more than just physical health. It understands that cancer can affect your emotional and mental wellbeing too.

There are many services available, including counselling, nursing support, and group activities that help people connect and feel supported.

Volunteers Matter

Volunteers play a big role in the centre. They are absolutely outstanding. They help with daily activities, welcome visitors, and support events and fundraising.

Sometimes, even a small act, like a friendly conversation, can make a big difference to someone who need it most. Volunteers help create a kind and caring environment where people feel comfortable.

Volunteering is also a rewarding experience. It allows people to give back to the community and be part of something meaningful.

How Volunteers Can Get Involved

Volunteers help by welcoming visitors, offering a friendly presence, and supporting the smooth running of the centre.

Full training is provided, helping volunteers understand the impact of cancer and build strong listening and communication skills.

If you’re interested in getting involved, you can contact the centre directly or reach out to Louth Volunteer Centre for support in starting your volunteering journey.
