Celebrating National Volunteering Week 2025 at Louth Volunteer Centre

Here at Louth Volunteer Centre, we couldn’t be more excited to have spent an incredible week celebrating National Volunteering Week 2025. This year’s theme, ‘Building Community Together’, resonated deeply with all of us as we reflected on the powerful impact of volunteers in shaping and strengthening our local communities.

The week was brimming with inspiring events held throughout County Louth. We kicked off the celebrations on Monday, 19th May, with our Annual General Meeting (AGM). A heartfelt thank you to Louth County Council for graciously hosting us in their stunning new building on Fair Street, Drogheda. The AGM provided a perfect moment to come together with some of our outstanding volunteers, board members, local councillors, and key stakeholders. It’s always a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the year gone by, celebrate our collective achievements, and look ahead to the future.

During the AGM, we were privileged to hear from a few of our volunteers who shared their personal stories about the impact of their involvement in various projects across the county. Their stories were truly moving, and it was clear that the sense of community and connection fostered through volunteering is something truly special. As we all listened, it became evident that this was exactly what National Volunteering Week is all about: acknowledging and celebrating the selfless contributions of volunteers.

On Tuesday, our team headed to the Market House in Dunleer for our annual Organisation Seminar. This gathering is an excellent opportunity for organisations that engage volunteers to network, share best practices, and gain insights from Louth Volunteer Centre’s training sessions. This year, we were fortunate to be joined by Geraldine from Boyne Communications, who shared valuable tips on how organisations can better communicate their messages. We were also joined by Stuart from Volunteer Ireland, who walked participants through the Volunteer Charter, outlining its significance and how organisations can get involved.

Thursday was a day for open mornings across our offices in Dundalk, Drogheda, and the Ardee Library. These informal sessions were designed for both current volunteers and those interested in volunteering to drop by, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, and have a chat with our team. It was a wonderful opportunity for visitors to explore the wide range of volunteer roles available across the county and learn how they can get involved.

Throughout the week, our team also attended several recognition events hosted by other organisations, where we had the privilege of presenting volunteers with certificates of appreciation. These events were part of the inaugural Volunteer Recognition Grant, which Louth Volunteer Centre ran this year to support organisations to celebrate the incredible volunteers who go above and beyond to make a difference.

We are truly grateful to everyone who contributed to making National Volunteering Week 2025 a memorable and inspiring occasion. Whether you’re a volunteer, an organisation, or a supporter, your role in building our community is invaluable. Thank you for everything you do!
