Spreading Christmas Cheer Across Local Care Homes
In the week leading up to Christmas, a simple idea turned into a powerful act of kindness, thanks to the generosity of local volunteers and the spirit of community giving.
As part of a special Christmas gifting project, 150 carefully prepared gift packs were delivered to residents in three local care settings: St. Oliver Plunkett Hospital, Curam Care Home, and Áras Mhuire.
Each gift was thoughtfully assembled to bring comfort, warmth, and a personal touch to residents during the festive season. The gifts were warmly received by both residents and staff, many of whom shared how meaningful it was to see residents feel remembered, valued, and included at such a special time of year. For some residents, these small gestures made a big difference — offering not just practical items, but a sense of connection and festive joy.
This project would not have been possible without the incredible generosity of our volunteers, who donated items, time, and care to ensure each gift was meaningful and dignified. From sourcing items in bulk, to packing and delivering the gifts, volunteers showed enormous kindness and community spirit throughout the process.
Christmas can be a particularly lonely time for people living in residential care, and this initiative was about reminding residents that they are not forgotten — that their community is thinking of them and wishing them well.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to every volunteer who contributed, as well as to the staff at St. Oliver Plunkett Hospital, Curam Care Home, and Áras Mhuire for their warm welcome and support in helping us deliver the gifts safely and smoothly.
Projects like this highlight the powerful impact of volunteering and collective goodwill. Together, we helped spread a little Christmas cheer — and created moments of joy that will be remembered long after the decorations are packed away.
