International Volunteer Year (IVY) 2026 Volunteer Spotlight - Board Members

The Board of Louth Volunteer Centre

This week, as part of our 26 of 26 Project, we're shining a light on the volunteer Board at Louth Volunteer Centre. Our board members generously give their time, skills and experience to help guide the organisation, ensuring we continue to support volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations across County Louth.

One of our board members joined Louth Volunteer Centre after volunteering with several organisations around the county. Wanting to make an even broader impact, they saw the board as an opportunity to support not just one organisation, but the many charities, community groups and voluntary organisations that rely on volunteers every day.

The Role of Board Member

Being a board member is about providing leadership, guidance and long-term direction. While the day-to-day work is carried out by the Louth Volunteer Centre team, the board focuses on governance, strategic planning and ensuring the organisation continues to meet the needs of communities across the county.

Board members meet regularly throughout the year, working together to make informed decisions that support the Centre's mission and future development. At different times, smaller working groups also come together to focus on projects such as developing strategic plans, reviewing policies or bringing specialist expertise in areas like finance, governance, HR or community development.

Their role is to ask the right questions, provide oversight and help ensure Louth Volunteer Centre remains inclusive, accessible and responsive to the changing needs of volunteers and organisations throughout County Louth.

How to Get Involved

If you've ever thought about volunteering but weren't sure where to start, remember that every journey begins with a single step.

Board opportunities arise as members complete their terms, and we always welcome people who are passionate about community and want to make a difference. If you're ready to take the next step in your volunteering journey, we'd love to hear from you.
