Volunteer Spotlight: Drogheda Homeless Aid

As part of our 26 of 26 Project, we're proud to introduce one more incredible organisation making a real difference in our community: Drogheda Homeless Aid.

Restoring Dignity, One Person at a Time

Drogheda Homeless Aid has spent over four decades caring for people experiencing homelessness in Drogheda and the surrounding area. What started as a response to a growing local need has since grown into a full range of services - an emergency hostel, hot meals, resettlement support, housing, and advocacy - all built around one simple aim: helping people find their way back to independence, with their dignity intact.

Since it began, the organisation has supported thousands of people, many of whom have gone on to resettle into the community and rebuild independent, fulfilling lives.

The Difference Volunteers Make

The real measure of this work is in the lives it changes. As one person supported by Drogheda Homeless Aid, Sean O'Reilly, put it:

"Drogheda Homeless Aid changed my life. With their support, I found my confidence and now have a job and my own place. I am forever grateful."

Stories like Sean's are exactly why the team keeps showing up - and why so many volunteers choose to give their time to this cause.

None of this happens without people willing to give their time. Drogheda Homeless Aid regularly calls on volunteers to help with flag days, food collections, and their biggest event of the year - the annual Big Sleepout, where members of the community spend a night outdoors to raise funds and awareness for people who don't have that choice.

Whether it's standing with a collection bucket in a shopping centre, helping run a raffle, or joining the sleepout itself, every volunteer plays a part in keeping these services running.

How You Can Get Involved

There are plenty of ways to help Drogheda Homeless Aid continue this work.

Getting involved doesn't have to mean a huge commitment.

A few hours of your time, a bag of donated food, or simply telling a friend about the work they do can all make a real difference to someone in your community.
