Habitat ReStore is a place where donated furniture, building materials, and household items are given a new lease of life. This feature is part of Louth’s 26 of 26, celebrating organisations across the county that support volunteers and strengthen communities.
At Habitat ReStore, people donate good quality items they no longer need, such as furniture, hardware, and building materials. Volunteers help get these items ready so they can be sold at affordable prices to the local community. This means more people can improve their homes without spending a lot of money, while also keeping useful materials out of landfill.
Volunteers are at the heart of Habitat ReStore. They help with lifting and carrying furniture, cleaning and preparing items for sale, pricing goods, and welcoming customers. Some volunteers also go out in the van to collect donations from homes and businesses, making it easy for people to pass on items they no longer need. Without volunteers, the store simply could not do what it does – their time and energy are truly priceless.
Making a difference every month
Across the network of ReStores in Ireland, volunteers give around 4,000 hours of their time every month. These hours add up to a big impact: supporting local families, protecting the environment, and building stronger communities. Every shift, every collection, and every cleaned or priced item helps someone else find something they need at a fair price.
Simple, practical spaces like Habitat ReStore make a real difference. They offer affordable goods, reduce waste, and create chances for people to work together, learn new skills, and feel part of something positive. Through everyday tasks and friendly interactions, Habitat ReStore helps build a more sustainable and connected community.
Habitat ReStore is always looking for more volunteers. If you are interested in helping, you can call into the store, visit their Facebook page, or contact Louth Volunteer Centre to find out more and register as a volunteer. The team will show you what is involved, help you find a role that suits you, and work with you to agree a schedule that fits your life. Volunteering at ReStore is a great way to give back, meet new people, and make a real difference in your community.
