As part of International Volunteer Year (IVY) 2026, we are proud to showcase ISPCC Childline Drogheda and celebrate the volunteers whose commitment and compassion help support children and young people across Ireland.
Childline by ISPCC is Ireland's 24-hour listening service for children and young people up to the age of 18. Available every day of the year, Childline provides a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space where young people can talk about whatever is on their mind.
The Drogheda Childline unit plays a vital role in delivering this service. From their local listening centre, volunteers respond to phone calls and live webchats from children and young people seeking support, reassurance, or simply someone to listen.
Young people contact Childline for many different reasons. Some may be experiencing bullying, abuse, anxiety, loneliness, or family difficulties. Others simply need a friendly conversation or a listening ear. Whatever the reason, Childline volunteers are there to ensure every young person feels heard, valued, and supported.
The Childline service would not exist without its dedicated team of volunteers. Their contribution is at the heart of everything the organisation does.
Volunteers commit to a four-hour shift each week and are trained in active listening and safeguarding. During these shifts, they provide support to hundreds of young people through both phone calls and webchat conversations.
Every interaction has the potential to make a meaningful difference. By listening without judgement, validating feelings, and helping young people explore their options, volunteers create a safe space where children can express themselves openly and honestly.
The impact of this support cannot be overstated. For many young people, a conversation with a Childline volunteer can be the first step towards feeling understood, less alone, and more confident about facing the challenges in their lives.
Childline volunteers are compassionate, dedicated individuals who give their time to support children and young people when they need it most.
