International Volunteer Year (IVY) 2026 Volunteer Spotlight - Lann Léire GFC

Volunteers at the heart of our club and community

Volunteers at Lann Léire GFC are the backbone of the club. Their time, care, and commitment support players, families, and the wider Dunleer community every single day. This feature is part of Louth’s 26 of 26, celebrating 26 organisations across the county and the volunteers who make them possible.

A club built on people
At Lann Léire, volunteering goes far beyond match day. It is about showing up in all seasons, in all weather, and at every stage of club life. Our groundsmen deserve special mention. They work tirelessly in and around the pitches, often behind the scenes, to make sure facilities are safe, welcoming, and ready for use. Their work does not go unnoticed. We also recognise the selfless volunteers who look after our senior footballers at training throughout the winter and all year round. Down through the years, they have provided constant support and care to generations of players.

Remembering those who gave so much
We remember all past members who are no longer with us and who dedicated their lives to the club. They are deeply missed. We hope their families know how much these volunteers meant, and still mean, to Lann Léire GFC.Their contribution lives on in the values of the club today.

Supporting every part of club life
Lann Léire volunteers take on many roles. They supervise car parks, run tuck shops, organise grass cutting, sell lotto tickets, and schedule pitches. They arrange transport, wash jerseys, provide first aid, deliver packages, and drive players to matches and events. They offer financial support, help plan for the future, and, just as importantly, lend a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen when it is needed most. Volunteers also include our current committee members, our parents, our players, and our loyal supporters, all working together to keep the club strong.

Backed by our community
We are hugely grateful to the companies who generously donate and sponsor the club. Your continued support has helped us develop and maintain a state-of-the-art facility for the community. You know who you are, and we thank you. Without this support, what we offer would not be possible.

Why volunteering matters

Volunteering at Lann Léire GFC is about pride, belonging, and community. It is about people giving their time so others can play, grow, and feel supported. Our volunteers are Lann Léire and Dunleer’s very best. Through their dedication, the club continues to thrive and remain a place where everyone is welcome.
